Is it me or has politics changed? I seem, to remember a time when you were allowed to pick policies from any party, and maybe the party you agreed with most tended to be the one you aligned with and voted for. However, today’s political landscape feels more akin to a battlefield where loyalty to the team trumps everything else be it Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, or Liberals.
It seems to me now that you have to dictate your entire political identity to one “team”. Or risk being ostracized Politics has become less about policy and more about identity. People seem to align themselves the way one would with a sports team i.e. Celtic v Rangers.
This troubles me as in some cases it’s almost like a cult blindly following your team even when they are doing and saying things you know in your heart to be wrong but if you speak out you canceled.
Become just like sports fans can become aggressive with the other side and instead of discussing ideas and trying to find common ground (like adults) it’s more about one-upping one another which in the long run serves neither side or one country as people are more concerned with scoring points against the opposition rather addressing real-time issues.
In conclusion, while it’s natural for humans to form groups and support “team,” in politics, this can lead to detrimental effects on society. Recognizing this dynamic and actively working to bridge divides might not only improve political discourse but also enhance the quality of democracy and enrich all of us to be exposed to ideas of all kind
