Has Magic been reborn as yesterday through the All-Ireland final that Mayo won by three points? Let’s go back in time.
In 1951, when Mayo won the All-Ireland final, the team traveled home through Mayo. The story then goes on and says they encountered a funeral procession; instead of stopping and showing respect, they allegedly kept on going, celebrating. It was rumored that a local priest saw this, and the priest said they would never win another All-Ireland until the entire team of 1951 had passed.
Now I am not a local Mayo man, but it was only later over the years, after the All-Ireland finals had passed them by, that it became the local legend of the Mayo curse. I took time to watch the game myself, and it was nail-biting stuff, end-to-end stuff. And then it blew the whistle, and that was it! Mayo won the title, and a weird numbness came over me. I sat down, and I didn’t get up for ten minutes after the 75 years, even after the final speech given by the captain said the curse is lifted.

Do you believe in belief?
